About the bird
The Violet-crowned Hummingbird is a bird of the borderlands, found in the sycamore canyons of southeastern Arizona and northwestern Mexico. Its plain white underparts and throat set it apart from most North American hummingbirds, which carry heavy iridescence below the bill; the colour here is reserved for the crown, a deep violet-blue that shows only at the right angle.
