The story of the bird
On April 23, 1927, Florida’s legislature designated the Northern Mockingbird as state bird by Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 3 - a bird that can produce more than 200 distinct song types in a single performance. The Florida Ornithological Society’s July 2024 official checklist stands at 545 extant species, a total that reflects the peninsula’s position as both a subtropical sanctuary and the primary land bridge for birds crossing the Gulf of Mexico.
This plate gathers the signature birds of Florida onto a single sheet, drawn in the Audubon tradition of close observation and honest colour: Florida Scrub-Jay, Snail Kite, Swallow-tailed Kite, Roseate Spoonbill, Brown Pelican, Sandhill Crane, and the Northern Mockingbird.

How to hang it
A composite plate wants room to breathe. Give it a pale wall, warm white or sage, and hang it at eye height where the palette can carry. A brown or gold moulding suits the cream ground; black or dark grey gives a more graphic edge. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades the colour over decades.
