The story of the bird
Oregon’s Western Meadowlark won its place as state songbird when 40,000 schoolchildren voted for it in 1927 - a mandate the legislature did not formally ratify until 2017. The Oregon Bird Records Committee lists around 550 species for the state, one of the longest tallies in the American West, drawn from habitats that run from Pacific tideline to high desert rimrock without pause.

The print
