The story of the bird
The Willow Goldfinch - Washington’s state bird since 1951 - sings from willow thickets coast to Cascades while the state logs 529 confirmed species, from alpine ptarmigan above the snowline to Tufted Puffins on the rocky sea stacks of Cape Flattery. Washington is where the Pacific Flyway tightens into a corridor, and the birdwatching follows suit.
This plate gathers the signature birds of Washington onto a single sheet, drawn in the Audubon tradition of close observation and honest colour: Steller’s Jay, Anna’s Hummingbird, Varied Thrush, Tufted Puffin, White-tailed Ptarmigan, Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch, and the American Goldfinch.

How to hang it
A composite plate wants room to breathe. Give it a pale wall, warm white or sage, and hang it at eye height where the palette can carry. A brown or gold moulding suits the cream ground; black or dark grey gives a more graphic edge. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades the colour over decades.
