Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm.

The story of the bird

The bird settles among the spring blossom. Wings part-folded, head turned, one foot closed on the slender branch. A bold, warm-toned plate that works well over a mantel or in a sunlit living room, and a natural gift for anyone who waits for the orioles every April.

The print

Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm archival cotton rag, in three sizes from 8x10 to 24x30. Available unframed or framed, ready to hang.

About the bird

The Baltimore Oriole is a fruit-and-nectar bird with an unusual foraging trick called gaping: it stabs its closed bill into soft fruit or bloom, then opens it to part the tissue and laps the juice with a brush-tipped tongue. Icterus galbula arrives from Central America in late April and heads south again by August, so this plate holds him at the height of the season.
