Clark’s Nutcracker is the pale grey corvid of the western mountains, soft dove-grey with clean black-and-white wings and a long, dagger-like bill. It is a bird of the high country, the pine forests and timberline of the Rockies and the Sierra, where a single nutcracker caches tens of thousands of pine seeds each autumn and finds them again through the deep snow of winter.
