The story of the bird
The Gray-crowned Rosy Finch is the most widespread of the three rosy-finches, breeding higher than almost any bird on the continent, on the tundra and alpine scree of the western mountains and the far north. The warm brown body carries a silver-grey crown and the same rose-pink flush across the wings and belly that gives the group its name. In winter the flocks gather in the hundreds and drop to mountain valleys, and a rosy-finch at a feeder is one of the more sought-after sightings in North American birding. This plate holds one on a warm cream ground, drawn in true proportion, a knowing gift for a birder or a natural piece for a mountain or lodge wall.
