The story of the bird

About the bird
The Indigo Bunting is a small finch-like songbird of eastern and central North America, common at woodland edges and in scrubby, open fields. The breeding male is the bird you picture: brilliant blue, though that blue is a trick of light on his feathers rather than true pigment. He sings through the heat of the day when other birds fall quiet, and migrates by night, steering by the stars.
