The Bristle-thighed Curlew is the collector’s wader, one of the least-seen shorebirds in North America and a quiet prize on any wall that a keen naturalist keeps. The bird
The Bristle-thighed Curlew breeds only in a few remote corners of western Alaska and winters on scattered tropical islands across the Pacific, which is why so few people ever see it. It is named for the fine, stiff feathers at the base of the legs. Rich buff below and warm mottled brown above, with a bright cinnamon rump in flight, it is a bird whose earthy colour suits a restrained, natural room.
