Warm and richly marbled, this godwit is one of the most decorative of the larger waders, its whole body washed in cinnamon and dusky brown. The bird
The Marbled Godwit breeds on the northern prairies and winters on the coasts, where it wades the mudflats probing deep for worms and shellfish with its long, two-toned bill. Cinnamon-buff throughout, finely barred and marbled above, it is one of the warmest-coloured shorebirds and a quietly elegant subject. Its earthy palette settles easily into a restrained, natural room.
