The bird
The Semipalmated Sandpiper is one of the most numerous shorebirds of the Americas, migrating in enormous flocks between the Arctic tundra and the coasts of South America, refuelling on the great tidal flats along the way. It is named for the small partial webs between its toes. Soft grey-brown above and white below, with a short, straight bill, it is a clean, minimal study whose restraint suits a calm, neutral wall.
